Fire on deck 5

Writing prompt: What’s the most on fire you’ve ever been? Figuratively, literally, whatever.

One thing that puzzles me about sci-fi movies is how easily things catch fire. The hi-tech spaceships can travel at warp speed, people can beam from one place to another and they can replicate Earl Grey tea or whatever commodities they need. The power shields of the spaceships don’t hold very long, however. They are down to 35% in no time. And then, boom, fire on deck 5 and explosions all over the place. All that fancy technology and they haven’t found a way to put out fire more easily, or invented more fireproof materials? It’s just not credible – to the extent that science fiction can be credible.

Not the most burning question, but it still puzzles me as a movie lover…

The Ent on fire in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is one of my favorite “fire” scenes in movies. It goes on in the background and you might easily miss it. As the water rushes down towards Saruman’s Isengard, the burning Ent dips his head into the water to put out the fire. A seemingly insignificant detail that delights me.
