"To write more, write more." This is my writing notepad.

Consider the Birds

Day 11. NaPoWriMo! You really make us toil and spin. Today’s challenge is to “write a poem in which you closely describe an object or place, and then end with a much more abstract line that doesn’t seemingly have anything to do with that object or place, but which, of course, really does.” Example: James Wright’s fine Lying in a Hammock

They do not sow or reap,
or so the Gospels tell us
I wonder if the robin knows that
busy as she is building her nest in the apple tree outside,
layer by layer,
first roots and sticks,
then mud, which she stamps hard with her feet,
then soft grass
Carries it all in her beak,
back and forth, forth and back

Birds toil like hell, if you ask me

The plumber, on the other hand…
Maybe he misread the Scripture
and thinks it says:
Consider the plumbers, they toil not,
because he has not yet shown up
and the tap in my kitchen goes drip, drip, drip

I wonder what it is like to live in a tree.
